Customised heating and cooling system in a container from Dimplex

Safe, energy-conscious and cost-effective: The Dimplex (Kulmbach) product range includes a powerful complete system for heating and cooling commercial properties that can be installed in just three days.

What do you do when an existing system for heating and cooling a commercial property needs to be replaced or extended quickly and without interruption and there is no space available in the building? The solution: Pack the heat pumps, hydraulics and all other peripheral devices completely pre-assembled in a modern container, place it next to the company building and connect the system ready for operation in just three days. This procedure works equally well for renovation, modernisation and new builds.

The premises in commercial properties usually have high requirements: Offices need to be cooled in summer and heated in winter. Technical and server rooms with a lot of waste heat also require consistent climatic conditions. They must therefore be cooled continuously around the clock. In addition, the energy used should be utilised as efficiently as possible and the waste heat from the server rooms should be used consistently and sensibly. With these requirements in mind, Dimplex (Kulmbach) has developed highly efficient, customised heating and cooling systems for a wide variety of buildings, which generate heat and cold simultaneously and can also heat the buildings using the waste heat from the server rooms and cold water production.

If required, redundant systems can ensure maximum reliability - an essential feature for the permanent, uninterrupted cooling of highly sensitive servers and other technical equipment. For this reason, several heat pumps can be installed in parallel if required, although only one would usually be needed for heating and cooling. All circuits are analysed for safety-relevant eventualities.

The heating and cooling system in the container can be customised to the conditions on site. The Dimplex experts provide answers to the following questions: What can be kept from an old system? What should be omitted? The first step is therefore always a precise analysis of the existing system, pipework, pumps and circuit diagrams, with the aim of creating interfaces between the old and new system. A new, customised control concept is developed to match the hydraulics. Heating and cooling energy should be managed so perfectly that as much waste heat as possible is channelled from the server rooms into the heating system and as little as possible into the environment. And this in the simplest possible way with a minimum of components such as valves or controllers. "With our heating/cooling system, we achieve an outstanding combined performance coefficient (CoP) of 10.1. An average heat pump for heat generation is around 4. This means that two and a half times more usable heating and cooling energy is available with the same electrical input based on the combined heating/cooling system from Dimplex. This significantly reduces CO2 emissions and operating costs," says project manager Maik Heydrich.

To save space indoors, the new system was packed into a container that can be placed next to the company building. The fact that Dimplex heat pumps operate particularly quietly is a great advantage. All connections and joints of the heat pumps with the associated hydraulics, hydraulic separator and control cabinet are pre-assembled and tested in the container at the factory. An optional free cooler also operates particularly quietly and can be pre-assembled on the roof of the container. The entire unit is connected to the existing installations in the building via underground cables.

"The container is an elegant and intelligent solution that allows us to install a customised heating and cooling system for our customers in a very short space of time, which requires no space in the building and operates particularly safely, cost-effectively and quietly," emphasises Maik Heydrich. "With the exception of the heat pumps, all components - from the container to the free cooler - are custom-designed and built. This allows us to optimally equip existing or new commercial buildings with air conditioning technology."
