Climate-friendly heating system for a modern school campus
The ‘Wasseramselweg’ comprehensive school in Cologne was newly built for around 1,300 pupils - constructed to the KfW 40 standard. The project was designed as a ‘city within the city’ with a special spatial concept: five three- to four-storey building sections are arranged alternately with inner courtyards along a linear ‘school street’. Photovoltaic systems are installed on the roofs of the school and sports hall. The gross floor area is 20,950 m².
The sports hall belonging to the school campus, which had already been completed, was already being heated reliably and efficiently with a Dimplex LA 60S-TU heat pump.
Project facts
- Heat supply in the new building
- Total area around 21,000 m²
- Completion 2024
- Heat distribution Panel heating
- Air/water heat pump (space-saving installation on the roof)
Requirement
In this new-build project, a sustainable heat supply was sought for a modern school campus designed according to ecological standards. A space-saving and protected installation of the heat pump system was required.
It also had to be particularly quick: Construction was due to start at the beginning of 2022 and the school had to move in for the 2024/25 school year - no problem at all with Dimplex and the installation of heat pumps!
The solution
Installation and operating mode
- System solution with six highly efficient Dimplex LA 60S-TU heat pumps connected in cascade and intelligently controlled by WPM Touch Master
- Installation of the heat pumps on the roof - saves space and protects against damage (e.g. from vandalism)
- Platinum certificate from the German Sustainable Building Council for the entire construction project
Control and connectivity
- Intelligent control via WPM Touch Master, which allows up to 14 heat pumps to be cascaded
- Twelve output levels enable needs-based adjustment: efficient use depending on the actual heat requirement and the use of the building (e.g. school holidays)
- WPM Touch Master allows flexible and up-to-date monitoring and adjustment of the system through remote access and remote monitoring
