Asbestos database

Use of asbestos-containing materials in storage heaters, electric storage heaters and block storage heaters of old design

The vast majority of older storage heaters, electric storage heaters and block storage heaters built before 1976 contain components containing asbestos. These are components in which asbestos is present in a weakly bound form.

Known uses are:

  • Centre stone support
  • Sealing strips on the bypass flap
  • lateral, upper or lower insulation
  • Spacer strips between the core bricks in the air flow
  • Sealing material on the fan drawer
  • Radiator flange seals in the electrical switch room

Whether a Bauknecht brand appliance contains components containing asbestos can be determined from the downloadable lists "storage heaters", "Electric block storage heaters" (as of December 2014). This requires as much information as possible about the appliance (details on the type plate, delivery documents, dimensions if applicable).
